Determining the fair market value of a business is not just a SCIENCE i.e. analysis and interpretation of financial results which are used to bench-mark your business against other businesses that have recently sold, its also an ART, i.e the application of knowledge which only an experienced Business Broker understands.
Most business buyer will evaluate a potential business purchase based on the return on investment. assessing both the RETURN and RISK of the business.
While most of the RETURN can be evaluated from the financial reports (SCIENCE), the RISK assessment comes down to many contributing factors which an experienced Business Broker will discuss with his client and use these findings - which are often peculiar to his clients individual business - to provide a detailed and concise Appraisal.
The Appraisal document I prepare are comprehensive, consultative but above all written and explained in a layman's style without a proliferation of fancy acronyms.
